As this series of profiles wrap up, I just want to reiterate that I think it is awesome we have a political pundit from Mercer County on the Erie news. Of all the people they could have chosen, they selected our own Roberta Biros! Cool...
ReplyDeleteAnyway, my thoughts on Dr. Moore is that she comes off a little unspecific and (surprisingly) also unpolished. She hasn't had much presence in this race so far. She may have excellent perspective--and I would expect her to--on health care. Yet she seems to have gotten trampled by the other more aggressive and charismatic candidates.
I think Dr. Moore probably has zero chance to win this primary. I'm always surprised that there are one or two candidates for Congress who think nothing of skipping over local offices, hoping voters will send them to Washington on their private accomplishments alone. Maybe serve on borough council or school board, first? Get your name in the public eye, get a record under your belt?
I ran for school board, and am known for writing letters and showing up at public meetings and asking tough questions that get into newspaper articles. But I wouldn't dream of running for U.S. Congress--especially without raising any money first.
I kind of feel bad for Dr. Moore, but she has probably added some positive aspects to this race, including a steady focus on health care.
Ah Jason . . . flattery will get you everywhere!
ReplyDeleteGetting contacted by WJET was really funny, and completely unexpected. I was at an event and Jeremy Beecher recognized me and approached me. He said that he had been meaning to call me and asked that I stop into the studio. I did and ended up doing about 40 minutes of tape time on the spot. It was fun.
All good and fair points about Dr. Moore. She is a refreshing candidate, and after getting to know her I like her a lot! She isn’t polished like the others, but she would never claim to be. She needed help with her campaign and more through needed to be put into packaging her and preparing her for the campaign trail. I expect that we will see Dr. Moore resurface some day in the future, and I think she will be far more prepared at that point. I look forward to it (and I’ve told her so personally).
