Written by Roberta BirosIt is with mixed emotions that I post this event announcement today. The event is sponsored by the Mercer County GOP and the details are provided below:
EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT
Meet and Greet of Republican Candidates
Thursday, April 29, 2010
Hempfield Station One
6th Avenue
Greenville, PA
7PM – 9PM
First, the event is a wonderful opportunity for the candidates that are facing challengers in the Primary (only three weeks away) to meet, mix, and mingle with the people of Mercer County. I am completely supportive of that concept, and I have attended more than my share of similar events in the past six weeks. I will be attending this event (as I have all of the others in the area) to document who is there and what they have to say. I do this to provide information to the voters of the area so that they are well informed when they go to the polls on May 18th. I also spend the time and effort in covering these events because NO ONE ELSE IN THE PRESS WILL. I write about all of the political activities in the area because we need to STIMILATE INTEREST in this election in order to generate REAL CHANGE in November.
Unfortunately, there are some that believe that this particular Meet and Greet may be hijacked by incumbent politicians in an effort to promote themselves (rather than the candidates that are struggling to win their respective Primaries). The two-hour event should be focused candidates for Governor, Lt. Governor, and Congress (3rd and 4th Districts). IT SHOULD NOT be spent on incumbents that have no opponents in the Primary or (in some cases) no opponents in the General Election.
If Senator Bob Robbins, Representative Michele Brooks, and Representative Dick Stevenson show up with the intention of upstaging the Primary candidates, they should be booted off the stage. (even better, they should be booted OUT OF OFFICE, but I digress)
I urge all of you to attend the event tomorrow night in order to educate yourself about the candidates that are competing in the Primary. I also urge you to watch carefully at “who” is politicking and “who” is there to simply support the conservative candidates that are seeking a place on the ballot in the fall.
I am committed to informing the people of Mercer County, the voters of northwest Pennsyvania, and the taxpayers of Pennsylvania of ALL political activities . . . good and bad. I present information in this forum in an effort to educate and stimulate. You are free to form your own opinion, but I think it is important that you have access to ALL of the details.
A Side Note:
I have a funny feeling that some attempt will be made to prevent me from attending this event. I intend on walking in and documenting the activities just as I have done since mid-March. I “dare them” to attempt to stop me.
.

Note: You know nothing about politics. My dog knows more about politics than you. Therefore, if you are going to be there to report on political happenings, I am not planning to attend.
ReplyDeleteGood for you, if I see anyone trying to stop you , I will come to your rescue. Chuck ?
ReplyDeleteAnonymous #1 . . . I'll refer to you as "Anonymous from Grove City" if you don't mind . . . perhaps your dog should start a blog!
ReplyDeleteI find it curious that you are uninterested in my political opinions but you choose to spend your time in my forum.
I suppose you can afford to stay home. "They" will tell you all about it when "they" get home.
Anonymous #2 (Chuck) . . . as you can see by the comments from Anonymous #1 (a.k.a. "anonymous in Grove City), I just might need your backup tomorrow night. Be sure to come and bring your friends. I'll buy the coffees at Perkins afterwards!
ReplyDeleteAll true conservatives should be there! We have to be very careful about who we elect to run against Dahlkemper. There are few closet liberals of RINO's portraying themselves to be Conservative Republicans.
ReplyDeleteWhen I confronted Paul Huber about his conservatism at last Saturday's Tea Party in Mercer. He became very short with me when we started to dis-agree on philosophy. Basically I said to Huber that he should have stayed a Democrate and ran as a Conservative against Dahlkemper thus knocking her out of the primary. What better for a true Independent Conservative like myself than to have two Conservatives to pick from in the fall. He disagreed with me with an ever increasing madding tone in his voice. I really do not think he understand politics! You do not talk to a potential voter like that!
Also, out of all of these 6 candidates, so far only 1 has on their web site that they are an NRA member. That raises a red flag with me! So, only Ed Franz feels that being a NRA member is improtant enough to him that he has it one his web site and the rest really do not care about their 2nd Admendment rights? Now the NRA is far from perfect, but they are the only National Organization that continually fights for our rights to hunt, target shoot, and own firearms for personal protection.
So Mercer County Conservative's be very careful who you vote for or we could end up with Dahlkemper again!
In defense of the NRA thing, I am also a member of NRA and whole-heartedly support the 2nd Amendment. I do not, however, have it as part of my platform on my website. I focus on issues of good government, but it is impossible to address everything without watering down something else. I can give them a pass for it not being on their websites, but perhaps that is a good question for each of them at the next question and answer session?
ReplyDeleteYour comments about Huber's frustration are interesting. As we get closer to the election and as the candidates begin to wear down physically, we are going to see things surface that we didn't see before. I KNOW that the candidates are all tired right now, and it is an interesting opportunity to see how they work under pressure.
That is all the more reason to attend the meeting tonight in Greenville. Take advantage of the chance to talk to candidates when they are not necessarily at the "top of their game".
Is this still going on? I haven't seen any mention of it in the local newspapers. I attended the debate at Grove City College but am still undecided on the candidates. Is this going to be a debate also, or some other format?
ReplyDeleteD.
Thanks for the question "D"
ReplyDeleteYES. THIS EVENT IS STILL GOING ON!
It is no shock that the local papers wouldn't make a mention of it as they probably have no intention of attending. If the papers attended all they would hear is "blah blah blah conservative blah blah blah" . . . wo what is the use.
They had an individual covering the Tea Party on Saturday and OF ALL THE PEOPLE AT THE EVENT, he chose to interview the guy on the sidewalk from Ohio that was selling "Don't Tread on Me" flags (and who could have cared less about what was going on on-stage).
If you are looking for event announcements, save time and money and check here first. We publish event announcements from all of the congressional candidates (as they are submitted) and we publish all announcements of public events. Best of all, we are FREE.
Tonight will probably NOT be a debate format. It is advertised as a meet and greet which is usually far more casual. Please come, though. It is a great opportunity to meet each of the candidates individually and personally.
It was a good night last night and you were correct Roberta, abiut catching them off their game. Some were just expecting a meet and greet and not prepared to speak.
ReplyDeleteI did clarify the NRA issue with them. Mike Kelly is an NRA member and pointed out that he has a sticker on the back of his Tahoe. I confirmed that after I left the meeting.
One of Steve Fishers people said he was but I did not get to talk to Steve.
Clayton Grabb has let his membership lax, but he owns a few AR's and served in the Navy, so I can forgive him for letting it lapse.
I could not pin down Martha Moore since she was busy and Paul Huber and I had much more important issues to discuss! Mainly my wish that he had stayed a Democrat and knocked the Princess out in the primary. As a true Independent Conservative, I want to have 2 choice for Independents everytime I vote. Paul did make a good point that as an Conservavtive Democrat he would not get along with Pelosi.
Finally, I want to publically apologize to Mike Kelly on your blog. I had heard that his GM dealership made over $ 600,000.00 on the "cash for clunkers" as he explained the program to me, that was money his dealership had to front to consumers and then he was reimbursed the money thru the program. Also, he had not choice to participate or not participate! So Mike, I'm sorry. Please forgive me for my ingnorance. But this brings up a good point as to why we are all so frustrated. Here is an independent private business that was force to do something! That is not right!
At the Mercer County Tea Party it was Mr. E.B who got testy and short with Paul Huber. You can tell by the way Ed writes that he is a hot headed, one sided know it all.
ReplyDeleteI was standing close by during the conversation with Mr. Huber.
If you are going to tell anything like it is, be honest not a bloviator.
B From Slippery Rock
To B of Slippery Rock:
ReplyDeleteAs a politician, Mr. Huber needs to be prepared for any question . . . any time . . . with any tone. This is not a Sunday social, and you have to be prepared to answer questions from all types.
These candidates had best be prepared for comments and questions from constituents . . . even hot headed ones (if that is the case).
I can't comment on Mr. E.B. or what his tone was (since I wasn't standing there), but Mr. E.B.'s tone shouldn't be used as an excuse or a crutch by a candidate or their supporters either.
And . . . "bloviator"? Honestly? You've been watching far too much O'Reilly.
Your point is well taken, but be careful when you try to make it too easy on these candidates. After all, they will be heading to Washington DC in January. If you are worried about "testy and short", Mr. E.B is nothing compared to what they will experience down there.
To Mr. E.B.:
ReplyDeleteShame on you. Were you "hot headed" with Mr. Huber?
I'm glad to hear that you got some answers regarding the NRA issue and it is good to see that you've settled some differences with Mr. Kelly. Things are looking up for you.
Do I get credit for having an NRA sticker on the back of my Saturn Vue too? Do I get "extra" credit for my stickers supporting the National Wild Turkey Federation, Tea Party Patriots, and the C.F. Martin Guitar Company?
I'll need to post a picture of the back of my vehicle as it is becoming quite the moving billboard.
